Bought from a local auction rooms in Hoylake. It needs a little bit of loving care and attention. Possibly French!
Top off
Once the cover was off it was clear that this little chair had experienced a few changes over the years.
Worse for wear!
Poor thing had had enough.
Springs have not sprung for a while
Springs have gone, now in the bin. Oddly enough they were not original. I took it apart, down to the bare bones. Its going to be rebuilt using up-to-date materials and covered with a Villa Nova print.
Naked
With everything stripped off the first job is to fill in the many, many tack and staple holes.
Starting to smile
I took it for a day out, making a journey to Pensby Community Centre. With guidance from Jane we devised a plan to make the chair comfortable again.
Webbed, hessian, foam, calico, wadding, fire retardant inter liner Sanderson fabric and scotch guarded.
Ta Da' all done
Its been finished with a Sanderson French style fabric, Aesops Fables' with a matching braid and sprayed with scotch guard. Matching cushions to follow.
Victorian Rocking Chair
The rocking chair has been finished in Farrow and Ball French Grey and upholstered in Harlequin Alina. Cushions are available in John Lewis.
This rockers not rocking very well
One of my many purchases from the auction. If you look carefully you can still see the auction number.
Pin seat on the rocker
This is called a pin seat, put together similar to any other seats but with thinner layers.
Another project.
Not only does it look ugly, its uncomfortable as well! Dooommm
Project, completed!
In beautiful French Red Silk, with an extra layer of wadding to make it comfortable.
Corner chair
Pink draylon has a lot to answer for. Its legs are a bit wobbly but then again its probably over 100 years old.
Balloon Chair
A Victorian balloon chair having some repairs. Planning to complete this one using traditional methods.
Traditional methods were used for this chair including a stitched edge. Fabric from John Lewis range.
Plant stand
Its being repaired which is why its upside down. Its been cleaned and sanded, awaiting two coats of undercoat and top cover. Its going to look beautiful with a bit of Farrow and Ball and a hurricane lamp on top. Promise
Georgian Bedside Cabinet
Over 200 years old. Its battered, distressed and a little bit sad. When this piece was made my grandmothers grandmother was alive.
